Kamuela has one of the best climates on the island at 2500′, and it’s a short, scenic drive to my favorite beach Mauna Kea – probably the best in the state. I live on this island and yet, Red ʻOhana is still a vacation getaway and retreat for many reasons. The property is peaceful, private, spacious, close to conveniences. I enjoy my coffee on the large lanai in the morning listening to the birds. The beds and linen are pure luxury. Any amenity I could need is here and attention to detail is evident inside and out. There are 4 weekly farmer’s markets in town so, plenty of options for organic produce, meats, and delicious foods… It’s money well spent for the totality of what this place offers.”

— Big Island, Hawaii

Our days were spent exploring different parts of the island. Postcard white sand beaches, hikes through the rainforest, prehistoric Volcano National Park…this island is our favorite! It was so easy to get anywhere from the convenient location of the Red ‘Ohana! Laura was a wonderful host and the concierge helped us plan our adventures. We will be back soon!”

— Santa Barbara, CA

Quiet street and luxury bedding made for a very restful week exploring the western end of the Big Island…The rainforest, canyon areas and beaches were within easy, panoramic drives, and Waimea was only two miles away with restaurants, groceries and Farmers’ Markets. Mauna Loa is ‘right there’ on a clear day, and Laura was ‘right there’ as well to answer any questions, offer travel suggestions and arrange paddle boarding lessons, a massage or any other request. Comfortable and convenient, the Ohana provides a refreshing rest at the end of busy days of exploring and touring.”

— Dodgeville, WI

The Red Ohana gave us a restful easy week on the Big Island. The house is beautifully kept, clean, and quiet. We enjoyed the outdoor area. Waimea has everything you need without the crowds, good food (Pau and The Hawaiian Cafe), two farmers markets, and lots of Parker Ranch /Paniolo history. We could get north on Kohala Mt. Road to Hawi and Pololu Valley, or go east to Waipio Valley and golf in Honoka’a. All the best beaches are driving distance, just down the road on the west coast. The owner was gracious, helpful and made us feel welcome.”
